"
Those wacky, Australian, now Brooklyn based funbags, The Death Set, have really gone and done it now.  This is an amazing Forty-three track party mix that will make for a great party but I wouldn't put this on at a house party because it will turn into a whirling tornado of humping and grinding, bumping and jiving, slamming and sliding.  Jay Reatard got mashed up with Beastie Boys.  Black Sheep got mooshed up with the Descendents.  Who would have thought that combining rap and rock would work so well except for Aerosmith and Run DMC.  And Public Enemy and Anthrax.  And all those other guys who were like,"I'm playing metal guitars and there's a black guy on stage rapping over it! God those white guys in those music videos sure seem smug for being able to collaborate with black rappers.  Most of the time I get the sense that after rap became the biggest musical genre that the rappers are just thinking "I don't really care about Anthrax or Limp Bizkit and I don't want to hear someone tell me about the ways that Public Enemy are a fucking punk group from some goony guy.  Let's just film this so I can get my paycheck and go back to doing my fucking music."  But these Death Setters have much more in common with how early Beastie Boys were influenced by Bad Brains than your older brothers "controversial" MTV Rap Rock collection.
This mix is so much more than raps and rocks getting jumbled around.  There's a good melange of everything that would possibly get people pumped.  There's some salsa, the Zombies, The Jackson 5, some Fugazi, Angry Samoans, The Misfits, Descendents, Waka Flocka, Black Sheep, Cee Lo-you know what, it's mostly just punk and rap.  But there's a ton of great mixing in this thing.  You know how you've got those songs where you can't see the entire song because it lists all the people it sampled.  "Jaggin' Off (Quietly So As Not To Wake My Awful Girlfriend) VS. Sublime VS. 311 VS. Dillinger Escape Plan."  That's actually more like a fight I'd like to see than a song actually.  311 would be all, "Excuse me sir, this is not at all irie!" and the living guys from Sublime would be throwing pieces of the dead guy at the other bands.  The juice head singer from Dillinger Escape Plan would just immediately tear out of his clothing like the Incredible Hulk.
Seriously this mix is like the perfect party starter.  High energy punk blends into things that are new but familiar. Small nods, short sampled interstitials and an amazing cover of the Cure's Grinding Halt make this mix something you're going to want to put on as the party starts when people start getting into it and want to dance and again at the end of the night once the only people left there are so drunk that they're dancing like nutcases, passed out or fucking somewhere in your home.
